Stories we tell about what being well means, living a good life, and feeling whole explain the concepts of health, sickness, and wellness beyond biology or pathology. Our Health Humanities and Social Sciences program prepares students to identify, explore, and analyze people’s stories using methods from the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences, while helping them make meaning of their experiences so they can plan and live better lives. Graduates of AHU’s Humanities and Social Sciences degree program are well-rounded, humanistic leaders in health care, law, and education who use communication and empathy to facilitate person-centered decision-making and whole-person care.

Customize Your Degree Path With Minors and Electives

At AHU, you can tailor your health humanities and social sciences education by choosing electives or a minor in our BSHHSS program. Minors can be in a variety of areas, including:

As an alternative to a minor, you may select 18 to 20 credits of natural or physical science electives that align with medical school prerequisites or to prepare you to apply to graduate programs in medicine, osteopathy, and rehabilitation therapies.

Health Humanities and Social Sciences Program Admission Requirements

Submit an application and nonrefundable $20 application fee.

Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in high school or a 3.0 on 12 college credits. Admissions GPAs will be calculated based on credits and grades from regionally accredited institutions only.

Transcripts must be mailed or delivered electronically to AHU from each institution, or the applicant may deliver a transcript in a sealed envelope directly to the Office of Admissions. Faxed copies will not be considered official.

Additionally, transcripts from institutions outside the United States must be evaluated by approved credential evaluation companies. Please see Foreign Transcript Evaluations for more information.

Competitive applicants will be invited to an interview process. Meeting minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee an invitation for an interview. Applicants wishing to be accepted to the program must complete the interview process. Admission to the program will be granted upon completing the interview process.

Students who have not completed 24 college credits must complete all courses in person until they have successfully completed 24 college credits. Then, with the guidance of their advisor, students may register for online courses.
