Kimberly Burgess, MMS, PA-C

Kimberly Burgess brings a diverse background in education, athletic training, and clinical medicine to the Physician Assistant Program at AdventHealth University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Mars Hill College in 1992, with additional coursework in psychology, and began her career teaching middle and high school mathematics.

After completing athletic training certification coursework at Barry University, Professor Burgess became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and spent 15 years serving high school athletes through a hospital-based sports medicine program while continuing to mentor students and occasionally substitute teach. Her passion for education and healthcare ultimately inspired her to pursue a new career in medicine.

In her 40s, Professor Burgess returned to school and earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Nova Southeastern University in 2016. Since becoming a Physician Assistant, she has practiced geriatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, and orthopedic and spine medicine, providing comprehensive, patient-centered care across diverse clinical settings.

Throughout her career, Professor Burgess has remained committed to teaching and mentoring future healthcare professionals. As a preceptor for athletic training and physician assistant students, she discovered a passion for developing the next generation of compassionate clinicians. This commitment to education and servant leadership led her to join the faculty of AdventHealth University, where she is dedicated to preparing physician assistant students to provide evidence-based, whole-person, service-oriented care.

Professor Burgess is passionate about fostering critical thinking, lifelong learning, and compassionate, Christ-centered care while equipping students to become confident, ethical physician assistants who are committed to serving their patients, communities, and the profession.
